Matt Walsh was voted Most Valuable Player of Game 19 of the Hellenic Championships 2009-2010. The American guard received 59 votes at the ballot which was held by ESAKE, with the participation of 31 sports journalists from all over Greece. Walsh, who had no less than 22 points (8/9 FT, 4/4 2p., 2/5 3p.), 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 5 fouls drawn on him, with a total Tendex 1.165 at the victory over Panionios (95-78), is the first Aris player who gets voted MVP of the week this season.
Right after the result of the vote was announced, Matt Walsh made the following statement at the ESAKE official website (www.esake.gr):
“Winning the title of the MVP of the week is a big honor for me, because the Greek League is difficult and the level is high. This is the result of playing in a very good team, surrounded by great players and a great system. It just shows that the team is getting better and better and that we are moving in the right direction. You can’t get this kind of honors if you don’t play in a very good team. I might be the first Aris player who wins the MVP title this season, but I’m sure I won’t be the last to have an honor like this. There will be other to follow, too, if we keep on playing good basketball under coach Blatt’s directions”.
