David Blatt spoke to the Press regarding the upcoming road game in Trikala (Saturday 27/02, 17:00) and highlighted the need for his team to show some consistency.
“There are no easy games in the Greek League for us. It’s very important for us to show consistency in terms of performance and result. Anytime you face a team that fights for survival, you know beforehand that you are going to have a tough game. Unexpected things might happen in such games, so we must have the right approach, both mentally and physically”, the American-Israeli coach said and added:
“There aren’t many games left in the regular season, so we must try and take advantage of each of them, in order to move up on the table. Trikala will obviously try and do the same, for their own reasons”.
When asked about the attitude that he would like to see from his players in the upcoming game, mr. Blatt quoted: “I would like us to be consistent. There are a lot of stops and starts for us in the game. It’s like we can’t change gear in a smooth way, without turbulences. It’s only natural for a team that has been through changes”.
David Blatt also spoke about the adaptation of newcomer Matt Walsh: “Matt is a very smart player. He has got a very high basketball IQ. Honestly, in all my career I haven’t seen another player who could get so much information in such short amount of time and be able to understand it and use it immediately. For any newcomer, trying to adapt in the middle of the season is like trying to jump on a moving train, but in Matt’s case it seems as if he was here for months”.
In conclusion, Aris’s coach referred to the Walsh’s special attributes: “He is a playmaker, not in terms of being a point guard, but in terms of creating situations and making plays for himself and for the others. It’s good for a team to have as many such players as possible. And when they have Matt’s shooting skills as well, that’s even better”.
